Sabine Kühlich
The great German
Jazz-magazine „Jazzpodium" gave Sabine and Sheila Jordan
in June 2006 the cover-story: "Absolutly outstanding
German Jazz-singer". The compositions on her new album
were written in Harlem. The 77 year young scat-legend
Sheila Jordan joined for some songs: "This is wonderful
and unique; and a great band too!". Sabine is
accompanied by a superbly variable and intelligently
grooving quartet, which moves to and from bossa and
modal, bebop and ballad with amazing surefootedness. The
band leader sings in multi-lingually with a powerful
voice, sensuous expression and the unmistakable
character of an artist who is heartfelt in her desire to
let the listener in on her profound musicality. Latest
CD: TWO GENERATIONS OF SINGERS Sheila Jordan + Sabine
Kühlich.
In Cafe Vivaldi Sabine

Alfonso Velez
Lyrical / Folk / Blues
Alfonso is
breaking ground with his brand of lyrical rhythm and blues,
yet he's honoring the sense of pace and timing the greats
had.
The first son of a Mexican mathematician and a Cuban
architect, Alfonso has lived in Moscow, Mexico City, San
Juan, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Trenton, Washington, DC and
now New York. He performs constantly; active from Montreal
down to Florida, London over to Rome, drawing crowds young
and old. In Washington, he put together an eight-piece
ensemble lush with horns, hammond, and a hell of a lot of
vibe for his debut on DJBoy records. XM Radio invited him to
record his full-length album at their Performance Studio in
March 2007. The resulting eleven-song session titled, MAKE
IT PLAIN, is available exclusively through DJBoy Records.

The first extended residency, in 2005 at Caffe
Vivaldi, launched her career. She emerged from it with a
large following and established herself as major

second(2006) residency "The Spring"- continued into Summer,
Fall and Winter at Vivaldi, as her fans wanted more. And she
is back with "more" new andexciting stuff in 2008.

Dan McCarthy
Tucksy
is a New
York-based genre-bending jazz band that focuses on the
original writing of band-leader Dan McCarthy, as well as
cover songs from well-known rock and pop bands.
Conceptually, the band strives to create music that breaks
the rules of jazz by blending bluegrass, rock, and country
with a post-modern jazz aesthetic, and by fusing the grooves
of hip-hop and funk music with the improvisational approach
of jazz. Most importantly, the band focuses on melody and
song-structure and creates music that appeals to a broad
spectrum of listeners. Oh, and let it be known that this
band is led by the combination of banjo and vibraphone; a
first in the jazz world…. and bluegrass world… and country
world… and rock world… But don't let the novelty fool you,
as the pedigree of the players and the quality of the
musicianship is apparent from the first note.

Katie Arnold
Acoustic / Pop / Folk
Hailing from the outskirts of D.C., singer/songwriter
Katie Arnold has been writing music for the last 20
years. She started out on piano as a child, picked up
a guitar in college, and didn't discover the unleashed
power of her voice until her early twenties. With
influences ranging from Emmylou Harris to The
Cranberries, this up and coming artist is carving out
a niche for herself in the indie-acoustic music scene
of New York City. Katie’s passion-filled songs have a
fearless, yet graceful way of forcing people to stop
and recognize that a life untested is a life unlived.
“Her skilled vocals and song writing ability mark
Katie Arnold as a gifted talent.” -- Dave Kellogg,
syndicated radio personality
Jodie
Manross
Folk Rock /
Acoustic / Blues
“Her crisp
voice and illuminative songcraft belie her diminutive
stature…equal parts wistful and urgent, it’s atmospheric
music that will touch your heart and mind.”
-Los Angeles' Entertainment Weekly
“It’s no wonder why people rave about her power to breathe
life into a song.”
- Boone, NC’s The Mountain Times
“Jodie’s voice is strong, rarefied and, to risk hyperbole,
maybe even angelic.”
– Knoxville, TN’s Metropulse
“Manross’ rafter-rattling vocals can shatter even the
hardest heart.
–Charlotte, NC’s Creative Loafing
With her acoustic-based, blues-influenced folk rock, Jodie
Manross has become one of Tennessee’s --and now New YorkCity--top
singer-songwriters. Known as “the little woman with the big
voice,” Jodie possesses a powerful voice much larger than
her size and surprises audiences with her soulful delivery
of songs. |

"It's dreaming of how things could be, a kind of hope
you may not have in the world of reality. That's the
‘stellar' part. The ‘moss' is the real life part, the
pleasures and the pain, the stuff that grows, the stuff
that dies, the dirty down-to-earth stuff. It's bringing
those two things together." This is how Justin Tracy
describes the origins of Stellar Moss. It's simple
really. All the best things are. What is music if it's
not the combination of these elements, the hidden things
that are so easy to hear if we just stop and listen?

Alex Romero
Never have a hip-hop drum beat,
a cello, and a “prepared” acoustic guitar been so artfully
combined than in the music of innovative electronica
musician, Alex Romero.
Born in Miami to immigrant
Cuban parents, Romero grew up in poverty with little
opportunity to pursue his dream of becoming a performer.
As a result, he largely ignored what his public school
music teachers dubbed a “natural talent for singing and
songwriting” and focused on academic studies, which he
felt were more likely to lead him to a better life.
It wasn’t until he enrolled
at Yale University that he began to develop his unique
experimental music, tinkering with unlikely sources of
sound such as prepared guitars, circuit-bent electronic
instruments and mashed samples. Romero performed in New
Haven coffee shops and at various collegiate “art
nights,” in front of receptive audiences of friends,
dorm mates and professors.
After graduating with a BA
in Evolutionary Biology, Romero moved to New York City
to record his ambitious debut album, Melodrama,
which has been warmly received and played at local
nightclubs for its novel, yet surprisingly mainstream
sensibility.

Bossa Nova with pangs of soul, folk, jazz and pop to create a unique sound
that is at once engagingly familiar and refreshingly new. With a versatile
repertoire of well-crafted original songs, Avi Wisnia and his talented
ensemble take the Brazilian influences and make them explode in a million
different directions. A wordsmith as well, Wisnia’s clever lyrics pay a
knowing nod to his contemporaries and offer a fresh perspective on issues
facing his generation. In
conjunction with his original tunes, Wisnia reinvents classics from artists
like Lauryn Hill, Radiohead, The Cure and Tom Jobim - stripping them down,
taking them apart and reviving them with a new bossa spirit. |

Gena McGuire
Lyrical / Other /
Progressive
Gena McGuire
was born in
New Haven Connecticut, the youngest child of a very
large and eclectic family. Her mother was a jazz singer and
Brooklyn native, while her father was a theologian and
philosopher whom also took part in the daily grind of
corporate America. The combination gave her a foundation of
spirituality, sophistication and pure love of music. At the
age of six Gena began playing the piano. She studied
Classical all throughout her high school and early college
years. She wanted desperately to write her own music and in
her Junior year switched to Jazz. Eventually she decided to
take the plunge and move to
Manhattan to pursue her dream. With no room for a
piano she began experimenting with different vocal styles
from jazz to blues and hip hop, slamming lyrical poetry and
singing freestyle. Finally she found room for a piano, and
the merger of the sights, stories, and sounds of the city
came together into what is the very unique and special sound
of Gena McGuire. |

Danielle Gasaprro
Danielle Gasparro does not sing
a word she doesn't mean. With a modern
sound and style that blends jazz, soul and pop, this New
York City-based artist somehow reminds us of Ella and Louis,
Joni Mitchell and Janis Joplin, all at the same time.
Perhaps it's because, like those meaningful artists, she
presents us with her thoughts and
emotions while soulfully embodying the music she sings. Her
live performances, deemed "engaging and inspiring, not to be
missed" (Indie
Sounds NY), showcase this emerging artist?s rare gift for
not only driving her soul and voice deep inside a song, but
for taking the audience along for the ride. Career
highlights include the recording of her 2006 EP ?Big Movie
Screen?, where she had the opportunity to
work with Grammy Award winning engineer/producer Jay Newland
(Norah Jones, Etta James, Richie Havens), and her
participation in two UK based songwriting retreats in 2007,
both hosted by Chris Difford
(Squeeze). With songs that defy genre but feels at once
classic, Danielle Gasparro has established herself in 2008
as not only a meaningful artist, but one worth keeping your
eyes, and ears, on.
